Sharbati Devi, PM Modi's "rakhi sister," dies
Sharbati Devi, known as PM Narendra Modi's "rakhi sister," died in Dhanbad yesterday at the age of 103. Her funeral will take place today. Devi had made headlines when she tied a rakhi on PM Modi's wrist last August. Devi's brother died 50 years ago and she wanted to celebrate Rakshabandhan with the PM. When Modi found out, he had sent her an invitation.
The curious tale of how Devi met Modi
Devi, born in the pre-partition era, was married to Dharaj Agarwal. Together, the couple had nine children. Last year, one of her sons wrote to Modi about her wish of celebrating Rakshabandhan with him. She soon got an invitation. In the photos of their interaction, Devi is seen beaming and animatedly talking with the PM. Devi has left behind four sons and three daughters.

In 2016, Olympic medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik had tied a rakhi on his wrist. Heeven has a "rakhi sister" from Pakistan. Qamar Mohsin Shaikh has been trying rakhi to him for the "last 22-23 years."
