PM seeks suggestions for 15th August speech
PM Narendra Modi has sought suggestions from the public for his Independence Day speech. A message saying "Like last year, this year too the Prime Minister invites citizens to contribute their views, their ideas, their suggestions, indeed their own vision," has been put up on some government websites. Messages can be contributed on the MyGov forum or the PM's website and mobile application.
'Mann ki Baat'
Launched in October 2014, 'Mann Ki Baat' is PM Modi's unique initiative which aims to connect with the nation through radio to inform and seek support in nation-building and governance. It is aired in English and several regional languages and is broadcasted once every month.
PM's 69th Independence Day speech
Addressing the nation on 69th Independence Day last year, PM Modi complimented India's unity along with the country's vastness and diversity. He said that India's unity, simplicity, fraternity, harmony are its biggest strengths. He also pointed out that the reason for the country's progress is the participation of citizens in forming "Team India", a big team of the one twenty five crores countrymen.
22nd edition of 'Mann ki Baat'
On Sunday's radio programme, Modi said that he is India's first PM born after Independence and called himself "Pradhan-Sevak" of the people. He mentioned the Atal Innovation Mission and the need to focus on research and innovation. A new scheme for pregnant women called Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan was announced. He requested people to plant trees and expressed grief at the lives lost during floods.
Call for Nationalism
In the 22nd edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, PM urged the nation to share ideas for his 15th August address. He reminded the nation about Quit-India movement which started on August 8, 1942 and those who won India its independence. He requested people to celebrate the 70th Independence Day like a festival with patriotic fervour and share photos on the 'Narendra Modi App'.
