PM Modi is the most followed world leader on Instagram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known to be a charming and influential personality among the world leaders, has emerged as the most popular global leader on Instagram with 15.5 million followers. Modi is pretty popular on social media, since he regularly updates his followers with the latest developments, and also keeps tabs on the recent trends. So this recognition surely doesn't come as a surprise.
PM also has most-liked photos posted by any world leader
The result was according to the Twiplomacy Study 2018, which was conducted by Burson-Marsteller, an international public relations and communications firm. Apart from being the most followed global leader, the PM also has the most liked photos posted by a world leader on Instagram. His meeting with Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli right after their wedding received 1,834,707 hearts, making it the most-loved photo.

PM Modi is also the most 'effective' leader on Instagram
The second most-liked photo uploaded by any world leader was also posted by Modi. It was of him standing in a snow-covered landscape at a bus stop in Davos, Switzerland ahead of the World Economic Form 2018. Modi also turns out be the most "effective" world leader on Instagram, with every one of his 80 posts and videos from 2018 garnering 873,302 interactions, on an average.

Remarkably, Modi has also managed to gain more popularity than Pope Francis, Queen Rania of Jordan, and the Royal Family of UK, whose names figure in the list of the ten most followed world leaders. Also, the number of people who follow Modi on Instagram has risen by almost 5.5 million compared to last year. Interestingly, he was the most followed leader last year too.
Study says pictures out of the ordinary attract followers
The study further says Indonesian President Joko Widodo is second with 14 million followers, while US President Donald Trump is third with 10.9 million followers. "Pictures from birthdays, weddings and private moments with the family, wife, children, grandchildren on holidays and selfies tend to garner the best interactions on Instagram," it said, adding pictures out of the ordinary tend to attract followers.
Modi is number 3 on Twitter, after Trump and Pope
Coming back to Modi, he follows no one on Instagram, just like Widodo. Trump, however, follows 8 people, mostly his family members. Modi's impressive social media presence continues as he is at number 3 on Twitter.
