Call drops trouble PM Modi too, he wants technologically-advanced solution
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also fed up of frequent call drops and has directed Telecom Department to find a solution to this menace, TOI reports. PM Modi spoke to officials about how he faced problems while traveling from Delhi airport to his official residence, and asked them to find technological solutions to this persistent problem. He wants consumers to be satisfied.
At meeting, PM Modi said problem needs urgent solution
PM Modi spoke about the issue during his monthly interaction with top secretaries under the PRAGATI initiative. During the web-based interaction, Telecom Secretary, Aruna Sundarajan informed about the call drop complaints of customers, which they regularly received. "The PM said there is an urgent need to find a solution to the problem faced by aggrieved consumers," an official told TOI.
PM Modi asks about fine, Sundarajan explains what happened
Sources in the know said PM Modi asked Sundarajan about fines collected from telecom companies for call drops. The Telecom Secretary reportedly said it was proposed to collect Re 1 for three call drops, but the plan didn't take off. He informed TRAI brought Quality of Services (QoS) norms which meant higher penalties but telecom operators are staunchly opposing this.
Solutions should be technologically advanced, directs PM
"The PM said that resolution of issues related to the telecom sector should be based on the latest technological solutions. He emphasized that service providers must provide a high level of consumer satisfaction," a statement from PMO read.
PM also wants a solution to network-related problems in border-areas
The PM also asked Telecom Department to find solutions of network related problems in border areas. He insisted the solution should be fast to ensure this isn't used by anti-India elements to execute their plans. Reportedly, when the department told PM Modi this was a problem across globe, he suggested there is a need to find a solution while keeping in mind long-term utility.
