Former EAM Natwar Singh passes away; PM Modi expresses grief
Former External Affairs Minister (EAM) K Natwar Singh passed away on Saturday night at the age of 93. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, due to a prolonged illness. His last rites will be performed on Monday at the Lodhi Road Crematorium. He is survived by his son Jagat Singh and his wife Heminder Kumari Singh.
PM Modi, other leaders mourn Singh's death
Several political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed their condolences over Singh's demise. "Pained by the passing away of Shri Natwar Singh Ji. He made rich contributions to the world of diplomacy and foreign policy. He was also known for his intellect as well as his prolific writing," PM Modi wrote on X. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala also mourned the loss, praying for strength for Singh's family.
Singh's illustrious career in diplomacy and politics
Singh had a remarkable career in diplomacy and politics. He served as the EAM from 2004 to 2005 in the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He was also a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) for over three decades, during which he served as India's ambassador to several countries including Poland, Zambia, and Pakistan.
Singh's contributions to literature
Apart from his political and diplomatic career, Singh was also a prolific writer. He authored several books on history, foreign policy, and his experiences in public life. His autobiography, "One Life is Not Enough: An Autobiography," published in 2014, became a bestseller. In recognition of his service to the nation, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, in 1984.
