Supreme Court dismisses plea to send Indian Muslims to Pakistan
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea which prayed that Indian Muslims should be sent to Pakistan. A bench including Justices RF Nariman and Vineet Saran heard the plea and fumed at the petitioner. The honorable judges told the representative that if they agree to hear the matter, it won't end well for the petitioner. Notably, Muslims constitute 14.2% of the Indian population.
You really want to argue this, asked Justice Nariman
Inside the court, the bench didn't mince words while expressing anger at the disgraceful plea. Justice Nariman asked the petitioner's lawyer to read the plea out loud. Then he said, "Do you seriously want to argue this? We will hear you but we will pass strictures against you." When the lawyer replied in the negative, the bench junked the plea.
Earlier, HC judge said India should have remained Hindu country
In December last year, a judgment of Meghalaya High Court which reflected the deplorable thoughts of Justice SR Sen caused an uproar. Justice Sen opined that since India and Pakistan were divided on the basis of religion, the former should have remained a "Hindu country". He added no one should try to make India an "Islamic nation otherwise it will be a doomsday".
I am not against Muslim brother and sister: Justice Sen
"However, I am not against my Muslim brothers and sisters, who are residing in India for generations and abiding Indian laws, they should also be allowed to live peacefully," Justice Sen said.
Later, a plea was filed by SC against HC's order
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi had slammed Justice Sen and accused him of spreading hatred. "India will not become an Islamic country. India will remain a plural and secular country," Owaisi had said. Soon, a plea was filed in SC, by Advocate Sona Khan, seeking expunction of Justice Sen's remarks. Subsequently, CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued a notice to HC registrar.
