Goa CM Parrikar writes to state Governor for treatment abroad
Ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday wrote a letter to state Governor Mridula Sinha informing her that he would be going abroad for further treatment. Earlier on Monday, Parrikar, 62, was flown to Mumbai and admitted to the Lilavati Hospital for a check-up. From there, he will be taken to the US for treatment today. Here's more.
Parrikar also informed Guv about formation of advisory panel
In the letter, Parrikar also informed the Goa Governor about the interim arrangement of a Cabinet advisory committee to guide the state administration in his absence. He said that during his absence in the state, the meeting of the council of ministers whenever held shall be presided over by him through video conferencing from abroad or by circulation.
What did Goa CM Parrikar write in the letter?
"I have been also advised by the expert team of doctors in Goa as well as in Mumbai and subsequent consultation with doctors abroad to travel overseas for a specialized treatment of my medical condition," Parrikar wrote. "The minister nominated by me shall preside the meeting and I will separately instruct the chief secretary in exigency (if video conferencing isn't possible), " he wrote.
Advisory committee to meet at least once a week
A team of three ministers Sudin Dhavalikar, Francis D'Souza, and Vijai Sardesai will function as an advisory committee. The committee shall meet at least once a week, at such point of time and place, and is empowered to decide unanimously amongst themselves on important financial year ending issues. "It shall consult the finance department before taking any financial decisions," Parrikar said in the letter.
Parrikar held a series of meetings before leaving for Mumbai
Before leaving for Mumbai yesterday, Parrikar held a series of meetings, including one with senior state ministers. Earlier in the day, Goa BJP general secretary Sadanand Tanawade said that Parrikar will fly to the US tomorrow for further treatment. CM Parrikar had been ailing since mid-February and was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15 and was discharged on February 22.
