45 killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand
Forty-five people were killed when the bus they were traveling in rolled down a 60m gorge in Pauri Garhwal district this morning, the Uttarakhand Disaster Response Force confirmed. Some 25 bodies have been recovered till now. Rescue operations are underway. According to police, the accident took place near the Queens Bridge on the Pipali-Bhoan motorway in Nainidanda, when the driver lost control.

The 28-seater bus was traveling from Bhaun to Ramnagar when it fell down the gorge at around 9am, police said. The injured were rushed to hospital. Officials say the number of casualties is expected to rise. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force, along with police and medical personnel, have been pressed into action. CM Trivendra Singh Rawat offered his condolences to the victims' families.
