CBSE Class 10, 12 board exams begin today
More than 28L students across the country appeared for the first paper of the Class 10 and 12 CBSE board exams today. Results are expected to be out in late May. The Class 10 board exams are being held after a gap of seven years. In the meantime, the grade system had been adopted. CBSE has introduced other changes this time too.
The 2018 CBSE board exams in numbers
The Class 10 exams will end on April 4 while the Class 12 exams will end on April 13. 16,38,428 candidates have registered for the Class 10 examination, and 11,86,306 candidates for Class 12. The Class 10 exam will be conducted at 4,453 centers across India and 78 outside India. For Class 12, there are 4,138 centers in India and 71 abroad.
CBSE relaxes passing criteria for Class 10
The board has relaxed passing criteria for Class 10 students. Earlier, they had to score 33% separately in internal assessments and the final exam, but now 33% overall will be enough. However, this won't apply to subjects where internals carry 50 marks. This was done "considering the current Class 10 batch is coming from a different assessment background while they were in class 9."
Specially-abled candidates can use laptops from this year
From this year, the CBSE has allowed specially-abled candidates to write their finals on computers/laptops. They would also be allowed to have someone to read the question paper if they want. Specially-abled candidates get various facilities, like extra time in exams and question papers with enlarged fonts. 4,510 differently-abled children had registered for the Class 10 exams, and 2,846 for Class 12.
What to do in case of sudden sickness or accident
If someone couldn't appear any of the papers in the finals due to a sudden sickness or accident, they need to produce relevant documents to the board from a medical officer certifying the cause of absence.
