There are only 73 women judges in Indian High Courts
The Law Ministry informed the Lok Sabha that the 24 High Courts present across the country have only 73 women judges while their male counterparts are 600 in number. Also, the Supreme Court has only one female judge. "Thus, women constitute about 10.85% of the working strength of judges in the high courts," Minister of State for Law PP Chaudhary said. Here's more.
11 female judges in Bombay and Madras; Delhi has 10
Out of 73 women judges, 11 each are working in Bombay and Madras HCs, respectively, while 10 are in the Delhi HC. Chaudhary said the Constitution does not provide for reservation for any caste, class or person in the higher judiciary. He also requested the Chief Justices of the HCs to consider suitable women candidates while sending proposals for the appointment of judges.
