Passport Seva portal to be closed till September 2
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the online platform for passport applications, Passport Seva, will be temporarily closed due to scheduled maintenance. The portal will be inaccessible from 8:00pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024, until 6:00am on Monday, September 2, it said. During this period, no new appointments can be scheduled but previously booked ones can be rescheduled.
MEA assures smooth rescheduling of appointments
The MEA has assured that contingency plans are in place to prevent any public inconvenience during the maintenance period. A source from the ministry told NDTV, "For rescheduling of appointments, we always have contingency plans." They further explained that such maintenance activities for public-centric services like Passport Seva Kendras are always planned well in advance to avoid causing any inconvenience to the public.
Passport Seva portal: A crucial tool for passport services
The Passport Seva portal is used by Indian citizens to book appointments for new passport applications or renewals. On their scheduled appointment day, applicants are required to visit the office in person with necessary documents for verification and undergo a police verification process. The passport is then delivered to the applicant's registered address in either regular or tatkaal mode, depending on their preference at the time of application submission.
