Video: Biker chased, mauled to death by rhino in Assam
A 37-year-old biker named Saddam Hussain was chased and mauled to death by a rhino near the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam's Morigaon district on Sunday. The incident occurred as Hussain, a resident of Kamrup Metropolitan district, was traveling to Chamata from Mayong. A video of the attack shows him dismounting his bike and fleeing into an open field as the rhino pursues him at high speed. The video has since gone viral.
Rhino attack aftermath
Hussain was later found in the field with serious head injuries. An eyewitness said, "The person fell off his motorcycle, but the rhino kept hitting him, and at one point, it left him severely injured." A forest official confirmed, "The rhino came out of the wildlife sanctuary. We are investigating the incident."

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary's rhino population
The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Guwahati, is famous for having the highest density of one-horned rhinos in India. As of World Rhino Day, data highlighted a significant rise in India's one-horned Asian rhino population over the past 40 years, jumping from 1,500 to over 4,000. Notably, Kaziranga National Park in Assam is home to around 80% of the globe's one-horned rhinos.
