Bengaluru Ola driver allegedly molests woman, threatens her
TimesNow has reported that an Ola driver in Bengaluru allegedly held a woman hostage and molested her in the cab. The Quint reports he used the child-lock facility to hold the 23-year-old woman inside the car. Then he groped her and warned her not to tell the police. The next day, he threatened her again over phone. Ola says it has suspended the driver.
What happened?
The incident happened on Sunday night when she was travelling from Indiranagar to BTM Layout in a cab driven by Rajashekhar Reddy. According to her, somewhere on the way to Koramangala, he stopped the car on the roadside. He locked the doors and tried molesting her, but when she banged on the windows, he let her out. Afterwards, he continued following her for sometime.
Statement on the matter from the official OLA spokesperson
"We regret the unfortunate experience. We have zero tolerance to such incidents. We have also urged the customer to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities. Safety of customers is our priority and we will continue to extend our full support to this investigation."
Several sexual attack complaints against Ola drivers in recent months
In May, an Ola driver was arrested in Mumbai after he locked a 32-year-old woman in his cab and molested her. He even stole her mobile phone. The same month, a driver in Bengaluru allegedly molested a passenger. In August, another was nabbed in Mumbai for masturbating in front of a woman passenger. Ride-hailing apps need to have accountability for their drivers' behavior.
