Odisha: Several youths arrested for molesting student, filming incident
In a shocking case, the video of a group of youths harassing and molesting a girl in college uniform in broad daylight in Odisha has gone viral. The incident reportedly happened 1.5 months ago. After the video went viral, police lodged an FIR on their own and started investigations. Cops have arrested several youths from Bargarh district, where it happened.
What happened?
Police say the incident happened when the girl and her male friend were visiting a dam in Paikmal block one day in October. The group of youths is seen on video chasing the couple and molesting the girl. Most had their faces covered. The girl tryies to escape, but they surround her from all sides. Her friend was also allegedly thrashed.
In such cases, police often file FIRs themselves
In August, youths in AP's Prakasam molested a girl and filmed the incident. Even that crime came to notice when the video went viral. Three were arrested. Earlier in May, 14 youths followed, groped and molested two girls while recording the incident, laughing and sneering, in UP's Rampur. Police themselves filed a case. In the Odisha case, varying reports claim four-eight youths were arrested.
