Ten rescued after boat capsizes owing to Cyclone Yaas
The NDRF, together with the district administration of Jagatsinghpur in Odisha, has rescued 10 people from a river after their boat capsized, amid rough weather conditions under the influence of Cyclone Yaas. In a video tweeted by the Jagatsinghpur District Collector, the rescue personnel on Tuesday night can be seen holding on to an inflatable boat as people disembarked.
Operation was conducted under wind speeds of 45 kmph
"Fantastic work by NDRF and BDO, Erasama during #CycloneYaas rescuing 10 people in the late night from a river after their boat capsized," the Jagatsinghpur District Collector Sangram K Mohapatra tweeted today morning. He further said that the arduous operation was carried out in the midst of light drizzle and around 45 kmph wind speed.

Odisha CM also praised the rescue effort
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also lauded the rescue effort. "Appreciate the quick response from the team of @NDRFHQ and Erasama BDO to rescue 10 people from a capsized boat in the river, during a courageous night time rescue operation," Patnaik wrote on Twitter. "Such bravery is indeed praiseworthy," the Chief Minister further added.

Cyclone Yaas made landfall today morning in Odisha
Cyclone Yaas made its landfall today morning near Dhamra port in Odisha at 130-140 kmph, gusting to 155 kmph, according to the Doppler radar data. Several places, including Odisha's Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts, and neighboring West Bengal's Kanthi, Diamond Harbor, Basirhat, Tamluk, Uluberia are expected to experience ingress of the storm surge.
Over 11 lakh people have been evacuated in WB
Meanwhile, more than 11 lakh people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in West Bengal to protect them from the storm, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly said. The Odisha government said it has shifted over two lakh people from coastal areas in the state. "Every life is precious, thus all possible steps should be taken to protect life," Patnaik had said.
