#HealthBytes: Five nutrition mistakes to avoid during summers
The summer has arrived! Among other problems, the dry and warm season is a virtual invitation to a number of health issues, like sunburn, dehydration, heat stroke, eye damage, diarrhea, flu, and other infections. However, with a healthy diet and lifestyle, you can keep risk of these diseases at bay. Here are five nutrition mistakes you must avoid during summer season.
Mistake: Not drinking enough water
Dehydration is a major risk factor in summers. The hot and humid weather and the increased sweating put you at the risk of getting dehydrated. Dehydration is downright dangerous. It could lead to heat injury, seizures, urinary/kidney problems, among other issues. That's why it is advisable to drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glasses) throughout the day in order to stay healthy.
Mistake: Eating salty snacks
Salty snacks (particularly packaged chips and cookies) cause bloating as the body retains water to dilute the salt in these food items. This further leads to swelling in the belly and other digestive issues. Swap these processed, salty foods with healthy, home-made snacks. Examples include fruit salads, popcorn etc. So, bid timely goodbye to these salty snacks to maintain good health during summer season.
Mistake: Taking too much alcohol
Beer sure feels great in summer, but excessive alcohol will ruin your health. Alcoholic drinks are loaded with calories, so if you're trying to lose kilos, avoid it at all costs. Also, it leaves you thirstier and hungrier, thus making you eat and drink more than required. To fix this, set a limit before you sit down to drink, and prevent yourself from overindulgence.
Mistakes: Eating too many sweets; Dieting
Eating too many sweets: Sweets might seem irresistible, but eating too many will give you unwanted calories and fats, making you gain weight. Also, sweets can't really satisfy your hunger. So, give them up, and opt for natural options like fruits. Dieting: When you are dieting, you don't get plenty of calories (energy). You also miss out on crucial nutrients. Thus, avoid them.
