Kerala: 55-year-old nun found dead inside a convent well
In a grisly incident, a 55-year-old nun was found dead inside the well of a convent in Kerala. The body was discovered at around 9am on Sunday by staff members of the convent. It's unlikely that the the nun committed suicide, as blood stains were reportedly found near the well, and in the nun's room. Police are now awaiting the post-mortem report. Here's more.
The nun had been teaching at the convent for years
The nun, Susan, had been a teacher for over 12 years at the St. Stephen's School of the Mount Tabor Convent, located around 80km away from Thiruvananthapuram. She had recently rejoined work on Friday after a week-long leave. Some people at the convent said that she had some health issues, but these claims have not been confirmed.
A similar case had rocked Kerala back in 1992
The case is eerily reminiscent of the Sister Abhaya case of 1992. Sister Abhaya's body had been found inside a well at the St. Pius X Convent in Kottayam. The local police initially wrote the death off as suicide, but subsequent CBI investigations revealed the involvement of two priests and a nun. The trio were charged in 2009 and trial proceedings are still pending.
