Now pay at petrol pumps using your thumb!
Gone are the days when you paid cash at petrol pumps for refueling. Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has installed a system in two of its petrol pumps in Bhopal, where simply punching your thumb is enough to pay for fuel, since the machine will have your updated KYC details. Other petrol pumps countrywide will also receive these payment machines within two months, said officials.
For using this machine, linking to Aadhaar is compulsory
Giving the Digital India program a solid push, IOCL has tied up with Oxigen Micro Agency and IDFC Bank to roll out such Oxigen Micro-ATMs at fuel stations. These facilitate payment through retail networking. For this, linking to your Aadhaar card is the only step. After that, just punch and pay. One can also pay using UPI, BHIM Aadhaar Pay or Bharat QR Code.
Self-service petrol pump machines are also in the planning
Apart from this, IOCL is also planning to set up self-service petrol pump machines in India, with Bhopal slated to receive the first such pump. In this, one can pay online after refuelling. This would get rid of fuel theft and ensure transparency, said officials, after a meeting held on Wednesday, which was attended by representatives of Smart City Corporation Limited and petrol companies.
