NCERT to deliver textbooks to students at home
NCERT will now deliver schoolbooks to buyers' houses for free, if they buy it online from the Council's portal. However, this is only applicable to individual buyers and not vendors. This is being done "so that more people can opt for (our) books easily," a senior official said. NCERT had talked to e-commerce websites too, but apparently they were demanding more money for delivery.
The NCERT portal was launched last August
The NCERT's official portal at www.ncertbooks.ncert.gov.in was launched last August. Schools, empanelled booksellers, state governments as well as students can order the Council's books directly. "We wanted to address the apprehensions regarding unavailability of NCERT textbooks," School Education Secretary Anil Swarup had said. The lack of NCERT publications meant schools forced books by private publishers on parents, which are often several times costlier.
NCERT has provided books to 3,500 CBSE-affiliated schools
Since then, the NCERT has provided books to the 3,500 schools affiliated to the CBSE that have registered with the Council. With this new scheme of free delivery, parents can save the extra money they usually end up paying to private publishers. To buy the updated textbooks for this session, individuals can simply log in to the portal.
