Bihar board to have 50% objective questions from 2018
Infamous for rampant malpractices, poor evaluation and shoddy management, Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) decided earlier this month to reform its examination pattern. Starting 2018, 50% of its exam papers for Classes 10 and 12 will have objective questions to facilitate better student scores and quality checking. Separate OMR sheets will be provided to students to answer multiple-choice questions. Read on to know more.
Bihar board helping students to adapt to new changes
The move is the latest in a series of attempts made by BSEB to mend its damaged reputation. It uploaded the changed pattern and model question papers on its website, soon after announcing the reform, to provide students and teachers adequate time for preparing and adapting to the recent changes, reported DNA.
Aadhaar mandatory for writing Bihar board exams
To minimize cases of fraud, the BSEB in September this year made Aadhaar or any other valid ID number mandatory for filling matriculation and intermediate examination forms. However, from 2019, only Aadhaar would be accepted to register for Bihar board exams.
64% Class-12, 49% Class-10 Bihar board students failed in 2017
The BSEB introduced several exam and evaluation reforms in 2017 after it came under scanner over several controversies such as the topper scam and mass-cheating instances. As a result, 64% of Class 12 students (7.94 of 12.6 lakh) and 49.68% of Class 10 students (8.56 of 17.23 lakh) failed the board exams in 2017, making it Bihar board's one of the worst performing years.
Bihar board notorious for incompetence, negligence
The Bihar board is arguably India's most controversial state education board. In 2015, friends and families of students famously scaled the walls of examination centers to help them cheat in board exams. In 2016, Class 12 toppers had impersonators writing exams for them.
