Foundation laid for first naturopathy hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam
The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, and the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, jointly laid the foundation stone for the Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) and a 100-bed yoga and naturopathy hospital in Dihing Khamtighat, Dibrugarh on Sunday. The institute will explore the fundamental aspects of traditional medicine and related practices.
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy principles revolve around individualized care, emphasizing self-healing by removing barriers to natural recovery. Addressing underlying issues, not just symptoms, ensures holistic well-being. Harmless treatments with no adverse effects are prioritized, recognizing the importance of treating the whole person. Naturopathic doctors empower through education and focus on prevention by eliminating toxins. Therapies like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and homeopathy are integral components.
Features of CRYIN
Aiming to synergize traditional yoga and naturopathy with modern technology, the institution will be developed over 15 acres withs a ₹100 crore investment. Pioneering standards in education, preventive healthcare, and research, it focuses on evidence-based scientific validation of traditional medicine. Functioning as a global collaboration hub, it supports startups in the yoga and wellness sector while serving as an incubation center.
Integrated medicine
CRIYN offers clinical training for yoga and naturopathy experts, emphasizing capacity-building programs in cardiac and diabetes rehabilitation. With a focus on an Integrated Medicine approach, the institution aims to develop evidence-based protocols. The hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, and day care services, offering naturopathy diet, yoga therapy, massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and more, targeting conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and autoimmune disorders.

Dr. Sarma, acknowledging PM Narendra Modi's visionary leadership, praised the continuous support in bolstering medical infrastructure in Assam. "With AIIMS-like institutions, medical colleges, and Ayush hospitals, the state has witnessed transformative progress," said Dr. Sarma. Stressing the significance of naturopathy and yoga in promoting holistic well-being, he anticipates the positive impact of the new hospital and research center for people of Northeast India.

Sarbananda Sonowal, praising PM Narendra Modi's visionary leadership, highlighted the significant global impact of the Ayush movement. Sonowal emphasized leveraging the region's rich biodiversity for Ayush sector growth, leading to advancements in hospitality, patient care, and medical tourism. The institute promises a healing touch, providing scientifically validated treatments in yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda, and traditional medicine for South Asia.
