L-G gives green signal for North-South road to Delhi airport
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal gave a thumbs up to the Delhi government's proposal for connecting the north-south road from Wazirabad to the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The proposed 29-km stretch corridor will cut on the travel time, that is from 2-3 hours to 30 minutes. The Rs. 6,000-crore project which was awaiting approval will be started at the earliest.
New airport road connecting North-South Delhi
The road leading to the airport and connecting the North-South Delhi will start from Signature Bridge in Wazirabad and will pass through Zakira, Pankha Road and Dwarka. The elevated stretch will touch down close to the Urban Extension Road-II (near NH-8). The 29-km stretch will see at least a major 9-km of the corridor being constructed on the Najafgarh drain.
PWD Minister Satyendra Jain remains hopeful
Delhi PWD Minister Satyendra Jain made a presentation before L-G Baijal who liked the project and thereby directed the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) to clear the project. Jain further said that the project was pending for a year-and-a-half but if approved by the UTTIPEC, it'll be completed within three-and-a-half years.
North Delhi residents to benefit from this move
The new airport corridor running between North-South Delhi will immensely ease the vehicular traffic. Also, the Delhi government plans to begin high-speed buses on the elevated stretch in order to provide economic mode of transportation to the commuters. The airport road will specifically benefit the North Delhi residents for whom it takes nearly 2-3 hours presently, thereby cutting the travel time to 30 minutes.
East-west road corridor also awaiting approval
Besides this north-south corridor project in pipeline, another much-awaited project is the east-west corridor between Anand Vihar and Tigri Border which is still stuck in approval stages. The proposal for this project will also be presented before the L-G in a few days.
