Noida shocker: 16-year-old confined and raped for 51 days
In what serves as a reminder that humanity is slipping into darkness, a teen was raped for 51 days by three youths in Noida. The 16-year-old victim was held captive in an undisclosed location, but finally managed to escape somehow. On returning home, she narrated her ordeal to her parents. Much to their dismay though, the police initially refused to file an FIR.
Accused befriended the victim, abducted and raped her
According to the complaint of the victim's father, the girl was abducted by two youths whom the family knew. Chotu, who belongs to Madhya Pradesh, and another one named Suraj, a resident of Mahoba, befriended the victim. The father, who works at a factory, said the survivor was kept in confinement from March 2 and April 22. She escaped on April 22.
The victim was threatened by accused
Apart from Chotu and Suraj, the victim was also raped by one Aditya. The third accused is a resident of Sector 135. The trio threatened the girl that they would kill her if she tried to flee. Her father said the victim arrived home in a "disheveled situation". The family then approached the police, but their requests weren't entertained.
Family wanted police to conduct medical test
"We reached out to Phase III police and asked them to lodge a complaint and get her medical test done, but the police just made us sign a paper. Later, no information was given to us and there was no headway in the probe," the father said.
A week after victim's return, an FIR was lodged
More than a week after the girl returned home, the FIR was finally lodged on April 30 after her father gave a written complaint to Gautam Budh Nagar SP (crime). The FIR was lodged under IPC Sections 376 D (gangrape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 3/4 of the POCSO Act at Phase III police station. The police said she doesn't remember where she was kept.
Victim's father said neighbors misled them into signing compromise
When asked about the delay in filing the FIR, a police officer told TOI the complainant allegedly reached a "compromise" with the accused. However, the victim's father said they signed compromise papers after neighbors misled them that the case might bring dishonor to the family. Meanwhile, Phase III SHO Akhilesh Tripathi said no papers were signed and victim's statement will be recorded.
