Noida flat owners launch 'no registry, no vote' campaign
Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, residents and homebuyers from several group housing societies in Noida and Greater Noida West have initiated a "No Registry, No Vote" drive. Residents have threatened to boycott the polls, which begin on Friday, unless the issue of pending flat registries is resolved. Without the registry, the residents are not considered legal owners of their respective properties.
Why does this story matter?
Homebuyers have been left in limbo for years due to pending registries that prevent them from gaining ownership of their apartments. Despite government initiatives like the Amitabh Kant committee relief package aimed at resolving stalled flat registries, only a small percentage have been executed. This slow progress has led to widespread frustration among homebuyers, further fueling the "No Registry, No Vote" campaign.
Unfulfilled promises fuel homebuyers' discontent
Societies such as Gaur Saundaryam, Gardenia Glory, Futec Gateway, Himalaya Pride, Nirala Greenshire, Ajnara Homes, and Shivalik Homes have expressed their discontent. They have pledged to withhold their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls unless their demands are met. Gautam Budh Nagar, which includes Noida, Greater Noida, and other sub-divisions, is scheduled to go to the polls on April 26.
Election boycott to spotlight homebuyers' plight
By choosing to boycott the Lok Sabha elections, residents aim to bring attention to their plight and compel authorities to take action. They argue that until their registries are completed, casting votes would be pointless. Pushkar Kaushik, a resident of Gaur Saundaryam housing complex at Techzone 4, said there are more than 300 homebuyers in the society whose registries are pending since February 2021. Registeries of around 1.15 lakh stalled flats are pending under the Amitabh Kant committee relief package
