Won't open new engineering colleges, 62% seats vacant: UP Govt
With 62% seats lying vacant in engineering colleges, the Uttar Pradesh Government today said it will not open any new engineering college in the state. During the Question Hour, Technical Education Minister Ashutosh Tandon informed Legislative Assembly, "62% seats in engineering colleges are vacant, and the government is not going to open any new engineering college in the state." Here are more details.
Why are 62% seats in engineering colleges vacant?
Replying to Samajwadi Party member Sanjay Garg's question on why such a large number of seats were vacant, Tandon said, "It happened because the previous government did not pay attention to infrastructure facilities and allowed opening of engineering colleges though they were not needed." "We are ensuring that quality of education is maintained," he said. "Institutions flouting AICTE norms will be probed," Tandon added.
No new teachers appointed since 2007: Tandon
Tandon said, "No new teachers were appointed in government engineering colleges after 2007. We have sanctioned Rs. 200cr for developing infrastructural facilities in government engineering colleges." "To prevent the use of the name of a teacher in multiple colleges, the government was linking teachers' database with Aadhaar card," he said, adding that scholarships were also being linked with the Aadhaar.
