To prove 'sex-determination-test' correct, 'doctor' kills new-born by severing genitals
To prove his sex-determination tests were accurate, a quack allegedly severed the genitals of a new-born baby in Jharkhand's Chatra district, Tuesday night. Ahead of the caesarean delivery, the 'doctor' conducted an ultrasound and said baby was a girl. On delivery when it turned out to be a boy, he severed his genitals, killing him. The police are looking out for the absconding doctor.
'Doctor' asks pregnant woman's husband to deposit Rs. 10,000
Over eight months pregnant, Gudia Devi was admitted to the Om Nursing Home in Itkhori. Claiming to be a doctor, Anuj Kumar, asked Gudia's husband Anil Panda to deposit Rs. 10,000 for the operation and ultrasound. The quack delivered the baby late at night. He then severed his genitals and informed the family a deformed baby-girl was born, who died soon after.
Woman creates uproar, family approaches police
The lid on Anuj Kumar's lie was blown by Gudia as she witnessed everything. The family created an uproar and the accused tried to settle the matter. Chatra SP Akhilesh B Verior sent the baby's body for post-mortem that revealed genitals were indeed severed. A case under section 302 of the IPC, and Clinical Establishments Act was registered, and the probe is on.
Accused didn't have the license to run the clinic
An initial investigation into the case revealed Anuj Kumar didn't have a license to run a clinic. "He would scout for couples looking to know the gender of foetus and get the ultrasound done at the clinic of some of his associates," said SP Verior.
