Twist in Lucknow case: Tanvi Seth's passport may be seized
The case of interfaith couple Tanvi Seth and Mohammad Anas Siddiqui, who accused a Lucknow passport officer of harassment, has taken a twist. UP Police claims it has found that Seth hasn't been staying at her mentioned address since a year. "We have sent our report to the Regional Passport Office, further investigation will be done by them," said Deepak Kumar, SSP.
Couple made the news after alleged harassment by passport officer
Seth and Siddiqui grabbed headlines last week, after they took to Twitter to allege harassment by Passport Granting Officer Vikas Mishra. Apparently, he slammed Seth as she was married to a Muslim and hadn't changed her name in her documents either. He also asked Siddiqui to convert to Hinduism, yelling at the couple when they refused to do either.
Mishra denied allegations of harassment, witness backed him
After Seth and Siddiqui reached out to Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter, the External Affairs Ministry served Mishra a showcause notice and transferred him. But Mishra insisted he had done no wrong and was following protocol; he also objected to Seth, a Noida resident, applying from Lucknow. A witness backed Mishra, saying he hadn't misbehaved with them. Meanwhile, the couple got their passports.

'RPO will take appropriate action, our job done'
Police have now found out that the couple hadn't been living in Lucknow since a year. Kumar said that according to rules, applicants have to be staying at the mentioned address for at least one year. Asked if police will take any action, Kumar said, "We have to submit verification report on six-seven points only. Now, the RPO will take the appropriate decision."
