'No more good mornings in class': Haryana government's new order
The Haryana Education Department has issued a directive to all schools in the state, instructing them to replace traditional greetings such as Good Morning and Good Evening with Jai Hind from Independence Day. This move is aimed at promoting patriotism among students and staff, Sudhir Kalra, District Elementary Education Officer in Ambala, told ANI on Saturday. The directive will be applicable to all schools in Haryana, including private institutions.
'Feeling of patriotism should be instilled in all children'
"On the suggestion of the Education Minister, the Education Department has issued orders that on the occasion of Independence Day, children, teachers and all of us in our schools should use 'Jai Hind' instead of greetings like 'Good Morning' and 'Good Evening,'" Kalra said. "These orders will be implemented in all schools... because the feeling of patriotism should be instilled in all children and people," Kalra added.
Jai Hind coined by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
The department emphasized that Jai Hind was coined and popularized by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose when he founded the Azad Hind Fauj to fight British oppression. Following independence, the country's military services adopted the slogan as a greeting to demonstrate their devotion to India's sovereignty and security. The circular by the directorate of school education stated that Jai Hind transcends geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries and encourages togetherness among pupils from varied backgrounds.
