WOW! New Delhi to North America for Rs. 13,499?
Soon, you will be able to travel to North America for as low as Rs. 13,499, a massive Rs. 46,000 less than the usual fare. Sounds unbelievable, right? It will happen if WOW air founder, Skuli Mogensen gets his slots at the Delhi Airport by December. Mogensen's Iceland-based company will be the first long-haul low-cost carrier to connect North America to India.
Talks are on for five slots per week: Mogensen
Mogensen confirmed the news saying that they're negotiating with GMR, Delhi Airport's authority, for five slots per week keeping 6am as departure time for their Airbus A330neos. The introductory fares would connect New Delhi to London and 15 North American cities, like New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and Toronto, which are under $484-million WOW Air's network. The flights will have a stopover at Reykjavik (Iceland).
20,000 people travel from Delhi to North America every day
India is a huge market for this route, since 20,000 people travel on this path every day. "I think India is underserved when you look at flights between India and North America. Our target customers are smart travelers - people who are value conscious," said 50-year-old Mogensen, who founded WOW air in 2012. Mogensen owned Oz Communications earlier, which he sold to Nokia.
By next year, WOW air will topple Iceland's main airline?
Mogensen's six-year-old WOW air, is already giving competition to Iceland's main airline, 81-year-old Icelandair. The serial entrepreneur hopes that by next year, WOW air would overtake them in market share. He's also not worried about the crude-oil price rise, because his aircrafts are 15% more fuel-efficient.
