Soon, update Aadhaar, PAN at airports and railway stations
In a bid to improve public convenience in urban areas, the government plans to set up new Common Service Centers (CSCs) at post offices, airports, railway stations and urban slums. This means you will soon be able to update your Aadhaar and PAN while waiting at airports and railway stations etc. Here are the details.
25,000 POs, 200 railway stations, 15 airports to get CSCs
Initially, new CSCs will be set up in about 25,000 post offices, 15 airports, 200 railway stations, and 50 metro stations in Delhi and Mumbai, and 2,000 urban slums across the country. These numbers will increase depending on public response in the first year. "It will be convenient for people to access various services online and help utilize time efficiently," said a government official.
Major services available at CSCs
Apart from updating your Aadhaar and PAN card details, these CSCs can also be accessed to book railway tickets, make utility bill payments, avail passport services, banking services, and request birth certificates, among other facilities.
Presently, there are about 3.8 lakh CSCs across India
At present, there are about 3.8 lakh CSCs across the country, nearly 74,000 of which are managed by VLEs (Village Level Entrepreneur). In rural locations, CSCs act as single-access point for delivery of services electronically, including passport enrolment, Aadhaar update, train tickets bookings, getting new birth certificates, online submission of forms and bill payments.
