You can soon buy NCERT books online
From August 8, students will be able to order NCERT books online and get them delivered at their homes. NCERT is launching a new portal to help students and parents who often have to turn to expensive publishers due to lack of supply of the Council's books. The education body is in talks with Flipkart and Amazon regarding a potential partnership.
The move comes as a relief for lakhs of students
NCERT books are available online on some portals now too, but sellers often levy steep delivery charges. This is expected to end the recurring problem of shortage of NCERT books: schools often force books by private publishers on students which are five-six times costlier. The portal will also help the NCERT assess the number of books needed to be published.
Number of vendors will also be increased
Schools can place bulk orders and pay later. They will be able to collect the books from authorized centres. NCERT annually publishes a total of 364 textbooks in Hindi, English and Urdu. There are 680 authorized vendors. Approximately 42.5mn books are used in CBSE-affiliated schools.
