Javadekar announces additional OBC quota for National Talent Search Examination
The National Talent Search Examination Stage-II conducted by NCERT will feature reservations for students belonging to the other backward classes (OBC), Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced. The OBC reservation would be in addition to quotas for schedule caste (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and physically handicapped (PH) students. The OBC quota will apply from 2019 as the 2018 exam proceedings have started.
What is the National Talent Search Examination exam?
The National Talent Search Examination is a national level test aimed at identifying children having high intellect and academic talent. Every year, nearly 10,000,000 students give the test. Scholarships are awarded to the top 1,000 students, of whom, 775 come under the general category. Javadekar said the government is considering doubling the number of scholarships to 2,000. A decision for this is pending.
