National-level swimmer Moupriya Mitra found dead at Hooghly home
A 16-year-old national level swimmer from West Bengal, Moupriya Mitra, was found hanging at her Hooghly residence yesterday. She allegedly committed suicide. Though no note was found, police believe the Class 10 student was troubled over some "relationship dispute." "We are further investigating the matter," an officer said. Mitra had won two medals for India at the 2016 South Asian Aquatics Championships in Colombo.

Mitra had accompanied father to swimming club hours before
Mitra started her career in gymnastics, but an accident and a fractured leg forced her to give it up. She then started swimming and specialized in diving. Reports said the teenager had accompanied her father, Baba Bhasker Mitra, to the Chinsura Swimming Club yesterday morning, hours before she was found dead. The heartbroken father later said they couldn't understand why she had killed herself.
