#NaMoTV: Live-coverage allowed; no pre-recorded content in election silence period
The Election Commission on Wednesday said that live coverage would be allowed on NaMo TV, the 24-hour channel promoting PM Modi and BJP, but pre-recorded content cannot be streamed 48 hours before the polling date, during the election silence period. The poll body has informed the State Chief Election Commissioners (CEC) about the decision and directed them to observe it strictly. Here's more.

The EC stalled the release of PM Narendra Modi biopic and restricted NaMo TV from airing political content. The poll panel today said that NaMo TV cannot display "election matter" during the silence period as per the electoral law in any phase of the elections.

The EC's directions issued to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi. The Delhi CEO is the nodal officer for pre-certifying the political content of TV channels and other similar platforms that are aired nationally. The Delhi CEO was also provided with a committee specifically to ensure that the directions are followed in all the Lok Sabha election phases.
What is election silence period?
Display of any "election matter" by means of "cinematograph, television, or other similar apparatus" 48 hours before the polling in a particular constituency is prohibited under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act. This 48-hour period is called the silence period.
