Nalin Kohli made vice-chairman of anti-doping disciplinary panel
BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli has been made the vice-chairman of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) under the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). His two-year tenure will end on October 15, 2019. For his services, Kohli would be paid "Rs. 4,000 per day for sitting of the panel" apart from local conveyance allowance, the NADA said. The panel will sit in NADA's Delhi office.
What is the ADDP?
The NADA is in charge of monitoring and regulating the use of drugs in all sports in India. The ADDP, one of its sub-agencies, is responsible for hearing all issues referred to it in accordance with anti-doping laws. Importantly, it has the power to "determine the consequences of anti-doping rule violation to be imposed pursuant to anti-doping rules".
Kohli accepts the 'honor and responsibility'
Kohli, the BJP spokesperson, is also an advocate in the Supreme Court of India as well as the Additional Advocate General for Assam and Rajasthan. He called the latest appointment an "honor that comes with much responsibility". "One will need to discharge it judiciously as long-term implications are involved on performance and careers of sportspersons."
