UP: Principal allegedly strips 65 students 'to check for menstruation'

Uttar Pradesh government ordered a probe after allegations surfaced about a Muzaffarnagar school principal making students strip to "check for menstrual blood". The contract of Surekha Tomar, principal-cum-warden of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Digri village, has been terminated. 35 students of the 65 alleged victims have reportedly left the school. Power Minister Shrikant Sharma condemned the incident.

What happened?
According to students, Tomar called the girls down from the hostel in the absence of any other teacher and asked them to strip. She threatened them of dire consequences if they disobeyed. The incident unfolded after blood stains were discovered in a bathroom. Students, who reported the happenings as "humiliating", have demanded action against Tomar.

Tomar defends self against allegations
Surekha Tomar has denied the reports, instead alleging a "conspiracy by the staff" because she was performing her duties "strictly". "No one asked them (the students) to remove clothes," she told Hindustan Times.
