Muzaffarnagar: Pregnant woman found hanging under mysterious circumstances
A pregnant woman was found hanging at her home in Muzaffarnagar under mysterious circumstances, police said on Monday. Tabasum Begum was found hanging at her marital home at Jolla village in Budhana town of Muzaffarnagar District on Sunday. The police said that a case has been lodged against her in-laws for allegedly demanding dowry from her. Here are more details.
Tabasum's family alleged her in-laws choked her to death
The police said that Tabasum was married to Ashraf for over a year and was allegedly being harassed by her in-laws for not bringing enough dowry with her. On receiving news about Tabasum's death, her father Mangu, and brother Lukman reached her in-law's house and alleged them of choking her for not bringing a car in dowry, Amar Ujala had earlier reported.
FIR has been lodged, in-laws are absconding
Lukman has filed a complaint alleging his sister's in-laws were demanding dowry from her. He further alleged that they first killed her and then hanged her to make it look like a case of suicide. "An FIR was registered against Ashraf, victim's brother-in-law Arshad, father-in-law Tasawer, and mother-in-law Hasroon," Station House Officer MS Gill said, adding they all are absconding.
Ashraf had earlier received a bike in dowry
Amar Ujala also quoted Tabasum's relatives as saying that ever since their marriage, Ashraf was harassing Tabasum. Ashraf had received a bike earlier in dowry, according to the report. Tabasum's body was sent for post-mortem in the presence of SDM Ashok Kumar.
