In a horrific incident, a 61-year-old man in Mumbai's Goregaon (West) entered the house of his doctor neighbor, molested her and attacked her with a hammer. He was caught in the act by residents, but managed to flee. Hours later, he jumped off from a mall in Malad and died. The doctor is out of danger. The man had been stalking the 35-year-old woman since long, locals said.

The accused lived with his wife and son in a posh housing society, HT reports. The doctor stayed with her mother on the same floor. Residents told police that the man often used to stare at her, sitting below the building, when she returned from work. Sometimes he would get into the lift with her. Apparently, she remained unaware of his "evil intentions."

Yesterday around 10:30am, when both the man and the doctor were alone in their homes, he rang her doorbell. Initially, she didn't open the door and asked what he wanted, but when he insisted, she let him in. He then started molesting her and attacked her head, hands and legs with a small hammer. When she resisted, he tore her clothes.

As victim rushed to hospital, man goes to mall
Hearing her screams, other residents barged in, but he managed to escape. The people alerted police. The doctor was rushed to a hospital; she is undergoing treatment and her chances of survival are high, officials said. Meanwhile, the 61-year-old accused went to a mall in Malad and jumped from the second floor. He was declared brought dead at a hospital.
