Mumbai cops respond to 'ATM cloning device alert' after 12hours!
Mumbai Police might be winning fans on Twitter, but according to a recent report, it is far from reliable outside of social media. A local tried contacting them at 9:30am on November 20 regarding a card-cloning machine at an ATM. Initially, he couldn't even reach them. After he did, cops reached the place at 8pm. The device was no longer there. Here's what happened.
What happened?
Anvesh Parab, a sales professional, went to an IndusInd ATM near the Kandivali railway station in the morning. Then he found a card-cloning device attached to it. Alarmed, he called the Kandivali police station, but it was out of service. A WhatsApp number, which was later found to be traffic police's number, asked him to contact 100, but there was no response there either.
Police finally responded when contacted through Twitter
Anvesh could do no more than cautioning five-six people present there. He hid the device behind the ATM and left. In the evening, he reached out to Mumbai Police's Twitter handle. They subsequently contacted him and reached the ATM at night but the device was gone. They don't know yet who took it away, some employee or those who had attached it.
All people don't have access to Twitter
This happened a day after the case of Aman (@Jugadu_banda) went viral. The young man found an abandoned infant and reached out for help on Twitter. According to reports, Mumbai Police took notice and had the baby recovered and taken care of. But not all have smartphones access to social media. Emergency services have to ensure attention to the more easily-accessible traditional helplines.
