Mumbai Police issue advisory for Holi: What's allowed, what's not
What's the story
In an attempt to ensure public safety during the upcoming Holi celebrations, the Mumbai Police have released a set of restrictions for its citizens.
The order, effective from March 12 to March 18, bans certain activities, including spraying colors and water on pedestrians and singing obscene songs in public.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Akbar Pathan, issued the order outlining these restrictions.
Restrictions
Prohibitions include obscene public utterances and offensive gestures
Pathan issued the order banning the public utterance of obscene words or slogans, singing of obscene songs, use of offensive gestures or symbols, and the preparation, exhibition, or dissemination of pictures, symbols, placards, or any other objects or things that may offend dignity, decency, or morality.
Such measures are aimed at maintaining public peace during Holi celebrations in Mumbai.
Additional restrictions
Ban on water balloons and colored water
The order has also imposed a ban on spraying or throwing colored water, dyes, or powder on pedestrians. It has also prohibited the preparation and throwing of water-filled balloons, whether colored or plain, during the celebrations.
Pathan made it clear that anyone found violating these restrictions would be booked under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
