Mumbai on high alert after central agencies flag terror threat
Mumbai police have increased security in busy locations, including religious places, following intelligence from central agencies about a potential terrorist threat. "We have been instructed to conduct mock drills in crowded areas and religious places. All deputy commissioners of police are actively monitoring the security in their respective jurisdictions," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by TOI.

Temples in Mumbai have also been told to stay alert and report any suspicious activities as a precautionary measure. On Friday, a mock drill was conducted at the crowded Crawford Market area, which is home to two famous religious sites. Further details were withheld by the police, with officials saying that this uptick in security is just a normal part of getting ready for the upcoming holiday season.
Security drill conducted ahead of festive season
Mumbai is all set for big celebrations like Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali. Plus, the city is also gearing up for the Maharashtra state assembly elections expected in November. "With upcoming festivals and assembly elections, we are conducting security drills at Crawford Market and other key locations across the country," the officer said. In Matunga, a temple was closed to devotees after a police inspection in the morning, while in Chembur, a senior police officer inspected a temple's security arrangements.
