Joke goes too far, Mumbai model arrested for crying "bomb"
Kanchan Thakur, a 27-year-old model, was arrested after she triggered panic at Mumbai's Sahar airport T2. She was queuing with three of her friends to board Air India Flight 101 to Delhi. After first clearing boarding gate, she asked security "check her friend's handbag carefully as it had a bomb inside." This caused panic and she got into an argument with CISF officials.
CISF offloaded their baggage from flight after incident
CISF officials asked Air India to offload the baggage of Thakur and her friends and leave without them after initial questioning. Thakur then got into a heated argument with the CISF saying she meant the comment as a joke. The flight's departure was delayed by an hour. One of Thakur's friends was unable to travel to Delhi to meet her ailing mother.
Police: Thakur and her friends didn't mean to harm anyone
"The furious model again had an argument with the CISF and claimed that when real terrorists walk into aircraft they do nothing and when she just cracked a joke, they turned it into such a big thing," said police. Police said Thakur and her friends said it wasn't their intention to harm anyone. They said they were just trying to have some fun.
Police filed an FIR against Thakur under IPC section 505(1)(b)
This section deals with anyone circulating a "rumour" which intends to or is "likely to cause fear or alarm to the public or to any of its section whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against public tranquillity." She's out on bail but could face up to three years jail time.
