Mumbai: Jeweller found dead in his car with gunshot wound
In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old jeweller from Mumbai was found dead inside his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. "My life is over," Ashwin Lalit Jain had texted his friends before he allegedly took his life. His body was discovered around 12 hours after he shot himself, and police have registered a case of accidental death. Here's more.
Ashwin had gone missing on Thursday
A gold jeweller by profession and a resident of the Khatau building in Parel, Ashwin went missing on Thursday afternoon. When he did not return home by night, his father Lalitkumar, also a gold jeweller, filed a missing persons complaint. According to the complaint, Ashwin had left all his gold ornaments at home, and his phone had been switched off since afternoon.
Ashwin was found lying dead in a pool of blood
Subsequently, on Friday afternoon, a local resident found Ashwin lying dead in a pool of blood in his Wagon-R at Sai Baba Marg in Parel. Preliminary investigations revealed that the revolver used by Ashwin was a licensed firearm that belonged to his father, Lalitkumar. Prima facie, police said that Ashwin's death looked like suicide, and that he had shot himself on the right temple.
A financial crisis probably drove Ashwin to commit suicide
Police then rushed Ashwin to the KEM hospital where he was declared brought dead. Commenting on his death, Ashwin's family said that he might have committed suicide as he was in debt. Some of Ashwin's friends, too, expressed shock at the suicide, saying that they never expected him to take the extreme step. It's not known whether these friends had received Ashwin's last message.
