Diwali dhamaka: Mumbai fire brigade received 50 mishap calls
The Mumbai fire brigade got 50 calls of mishaps in five days during the Diwali festival last week, due to the bursting of firecrackers, an official has said. The fire control room received a total of 196 calls of fire incidents from November 6-10, of which 50 were of mishaps. This is an increase from similar incidents reported during the Diwali time in 2017.
Appeals to exercise restraint didn't have much impact: Official
"Last year, there were 37 calls of blazes due to firecrackers. This indicates that appeals to exercise restraint while bursting crackers during Diwali didn't have much impact," he said, referring to the Supreme Court order restricting the time for bursting of firecrackers to two hours this year. There is a lack of sense of responsibility and alertness, resulting in frequent fire incidents, he added.
