Mumbai: 58-year-old doctor raped 27-year-old patient, circulated video clip
In a horrifying incident, a 58-year-old doctor allegedly raped and blackmailed a patient, a 27-year-old woman, officials at the Meghwadi police station said on Monday. The victim came into contact with the accused, Dr. Vanshraj Dwivedi, in 2015. During treatment, the doctor sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious and filmed the incident. The accused has now been arrested. Here are more details.
Victim said doctor gave her injection which made her unconscious
The victim, a Jogeshwari resident, stated in her complaint that she approached Dr. Dwivedi as she was suffering from piles. On May 28, 2015, Dr. Dwivedi gave her an injection that allegedly made her unconscious. The victim said she woke up 45 minutes later and returned home, when she found a video clip of the doctor sexually abusing her in an unconscious state.
Doctor threatened victim with clip; raped her repeatedly
Thereafter, the complainant said, Dr. Dwivedi threatened to leak the clip if she refused to further engage in sexual acts with him. "On this pretext, the accused raped her several times at his clinic when there was no patient around," a Meghwadi police official told PTI. The complainant also said that Dr. Dwivedi warned her against speaking to anyone.
Incident came to light when woman's husband received video clip
In December 2018, the victim got married and moved to Malad with her husband. She also distanced herself from Dr. Dwivedi, who continued to threaten her, demanding sexual favors. Yet again, the victim refused and subsequently, her husband received the aforementioned video clip on his phone. When the husband confronted the woman about the video, she detailed her ordeal to him.
Husband took victim to Meghwadi police station; filed complaint
Thereafter, the woman's husband took her to the Meghwadi police station to file an FIR against the doctor. Based on the woman's complaint, the accused doctor was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested on Saturday. On Sunday, Dr. Dwivedi was produced before a holiday court and was remanded to police custody till October 17, according to PTI.
