Married-couple thrashed, stripped, forced to drink urine for 'bringing dishonor'
In what is sure to make sane minds angry, a young couple was thrashed, stripped, and forced to drink urine in Madhya Pradesh's Hardaspur village, for marrying against their parents' wishes. The 23-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman, both tribals, got married in May, and returned to the village, recently. They were then abducted at gunpoint and tortured by the woman's family members.
Husband's family gave Rs. 70,000 to wife's as compensation
After the couple married, the 'jaat panchayat' ordered the man's family to pay Rs. 70,000 and two goats, as compensation, which they gave. The couple then went to Gujarat, looking for a job, and returned last week. They were staying at the husband's uncle's house. On July 25, the wife's family barged into the house around 4 AM and abducted them at gunpoint.
The girl was half-stripped, her hair chopped off
After taking them away, the family members thrashed the couple brutally. The wife was half-stripped, her hair chopped off, and the husband tied to a pole. They were forced to drink urine. The wife was told this treatment was for 'hurting the family's pride' before they were let off. A video of the incident was shared on social media and went viral.
Case registered against woman's father, uncles, others
The victims approached the police and a case was registered against the woman's father, her two uncles and three others. District Superintendent of Police Vipul Shrivastava said two accused were arrested and search for others was underway.
