MP: Three dead, dozens injured after bus falls into drain
In a tragic incident, three people were killed and dozens more injured after a bus fell into a drain from a bridge in the district of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday, at around 4am, when the bus was heading to the Nagpur district in Maharashtra from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Here are the details.
What we know about the accident
According to police, the accident took place owing to the driver losing control of the wheels of the bus when the vehicle was crossing a bridge in the outskirts of Jabalpur. As a result, the bus fell from the bridge into a dry section of the Karondi nullah or drain. Three passengers - Murat Lal (24), Rahul Sen (20), and Ramu Pal (22) - died on the spot.
The number of injured vary with reports
Reportedly, the bus was a private one belonging to travel agency Pooja Travels. More than 50 people were on board the bus during the time of the accident, and reports put the number of injured between 30 and 50. The injured have been admitted several hospitals including Medical College Hospital, Victoria Hospital, Jabalpur Hospital, and City Hospital.
A similar accident had taken place in AP earlier
Less than a month earlier, a similar incident had taken place in Andhra Pradesh when a school bus carrying 52 students fell into a culvert in the district of Guntur. The school bus had been carrying students of the Krishnaveni Talent School, and the accident left some 20 odd children injured. In this case, the driver was reported to have been drunk.
