MP: BJP-MLA caught on CCTV slapping, threatening to kill constable
An MP BJP MLA has landed in controversy after he was caught on CCTV camera slapping, abusing and threatening to kill a constable inside a police station in Dewas. It is not yet known exactly what triggered the assault. While some reports attribute it to Bagli MLA Champalal Devda's son, others mention his nephew. A case has been registered under Sections 353 and 332.
Confusion over trigger of violence, but assault caught on CCTV
According to PTI, Devda's son had an altercation with Santosh Ivnati, the constable. Later, Devda stormed into the Udaynagar police station with his aides and slapped him twice. However, NDTV claims chaos broke out after Devda's nephew entered a restricted area of the police station and snatched a bottle of water from someone. After Ivnati scolded him, the MLA rushed in with his supporters.
BJP demands an "impartial probe" into the incident
The CCTV camera at the station recorded Devda slapping Santosh twice, while he had his hands folded behind his back. "An inquiry over the incident was registered and an investigation is on," SP Anshuman Singh said, adding the incident had occurred after midnight yesterday. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Shambhu Agarwal called for "an impartial probe," adding "Devda wasn't known to indulge in such behavior."
