Madhya Pradesh: 20 students injured as school bus overturns
What's the story
Twenty students were injured after their school bus overturned near a riverbank in Madhya Pradesh's Nepanagar on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place around 7:30am near the Dharni River. The bus was reportedly speeding when it veered off the road and flipped over.
Four of these students sustained serious injuries, including fractures and head injuries.
Medical response
Critically injured students hospitalized, driver absconds
The critically injured students were rushed to a private hospital in Burhanpur for immediate medical attention. The other injured students were treated at the Nepanagar Community Health Center.
After the accident, the bus driver identified as Vikas fled from the scene. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against him by local police.
Investigation underway
Police launch investigation and search for absconding driver
Nepanagar sub-divisional officer of police, Nirbhay Singh Alwa, confirmed a search operation for the absconding driver is currently underway.
Gyanu Jaiswal, in charge of the Nepanagar police station, also stated an investigation into the accident has been initiated.
The incident took place approximately 45km from Burhanpur and over 300km from Bhopal, the state capital.
