What's the story

A 27-year-old woman living in Kot Mohalla Basti, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi, allegedly strangled her seven-month-old daughter as she believed the infant brought bad luck to the family. The woman, identified as Adiba, killed her child on August 20, but the case gained attention only now. The police has registered a case and Adiba is reported to have confessed to the murder.

What happened

Adiba first strangled the infant, then kept her in bucket

Adiba strangled the child with a dupatta and put her in a bucket of water, to show she died of drowning. After this, she ran to her husband Israr Khan, a tailor, to inform about it. The couple took the unconscious infant to Moolchand hospital and told doctors about the perturbed drowning. She was declared brought dead, but police noticed marks on the neck.

Smelling foul play, the police sent the body for post-mortem in AIIMS. The report, which came out on August 27, credited 'pressure over the neck' for the death. The report also noted there was no water in the internal organs, and subsequently, a case of murder was registered on Monday. The child's father was questioned and he told his wife spoke about drowning.
